Description

Ebbisham House is an early 18th-century brick house located on the west side of Church Street in Epsom. The building is constructed entirely of yellow stock bricks and stands three storeys tall with five windows on the front, plus three additional windows to the right, separated by a band. The ground and first floors feature modern sash windows, while the original sash windows remain on the second floor. A notable feature is the fine central rusticated door surround, which includes pilasters, a triglyph frieze, and a pediment adorned with mutules. The entrance has a six-panel door and is topped with a brick cornice that has modillions and a capped parapet. Additionally, there is an 18th-century wrought iron gate.

Inside, the house boasts a panelled hall with a high Palladian stone chimneypiece. The staircase is contemporary, featuring grouped turned and twisted balusters and cut strings with brackets, and the walls are wainscotted to dado level opposite the balustrade. The south ground floor room, which was originally two separate rooms, includes panelling and a marble fireplace surround with a fluted keystone and an 18th-century wooden mantelpiece. The first-floor landing and drawing room are also panelled, with the drawing room containing two similar mantelpieces. There is another panelled room on this floor and an additional one on the top floor.
