Description

The Parish Church of St Martin is a Grade II* listed building located on Church Street in Epsom. The church features a flint tower dating from around 1450 and an 18th-century hall-church nave constructed in 1824, designed by Mr. Hatchard of Pimlico. The choir and transepts were added in 1907-1908 by Sir Charles Nicholson, using greensand and rubble with brick courses. The exterior includes some blind arcading and flint with ashlar chequered work, while the tracery is of 14th-century style. Inside, the church houses several notable monuments, including a Baroque monument to Elizabeth Evelyn from 1691 and three by Flaxman dedicated to John Warre (1801), John Brathwaite (1800), and Eleanor Belfield (1802). There is also a monument by Chantrey to Susan Warre from 1821. The churchyard contains very good Georgian tombstones.
