Description

Hamstone House is a house built in 1938 by Ian Forbes, designed in the Georgian tradition. It is constructed from brown ham stone ashlar and features roofs that are obscured by an attic and parapets. The building has two storeys with an attic at the centre, all resting on a moulded plinth. The front is concave and segmental, with a central pavilion and two-storey projecting quadrant walls at the ends, which support chimney stacks. The central pavilion has three bays and a projecting bow in the middle that rises to the height of the gull. The windows are casement style, set in incised surrounds with keystones above, and the central first-floor window extends down into the ground floor. The entrance door is located beneath a projecting flat hood.

On the sides, there are single-storey walls with oval windows, and the entrance walls at the front end in circular piers that support lamps. The garden front curves away from the centre at a 45-degree angle, featuring three-bay wings separated by square piers from the five-bay centre. The central first-floor bay of the outer wings contains double casement doors leading to a balcony. The ground floor has round-arched windows, while the central five bays on the first floor are set back behind a balcony with an iron balustrade.
