Description
This building is a group of almshouses located on Octagon Road in Whiteley Village, constructed around 1912 by Sir Aston Webb. The structure is made of grey brick with red brick dressings and features plain tiled hipped roofs with stacks positioned to the left and right of the center. It is a single storey with an attic and has two flat-roofed dormers. The central section is recessed, flanked by projecting gable end wings. Each gable end has one glazing bar sash window, and there is one casement window on either side of the central paired part-glazed doors. A colonnade of four twisted brick piers runs across the front, with quoined responds. Whiteley Village was established by William Whiteley of Whiteley's stores to provide for thrifty elderly individuals and was designed on an octagonal plan by Frank Atkinson, incorporating prominent architects of the time.
