Description

The Old Swan Inn is a public house formed from two houses that have been linked and extended. The building dates from the early 18th century at the left end and right of the center, with a 19th-century link between the two to the left of center and a further extension at the right end. It features colourwashed brick on a rendered plinth, with parallel ranges of plain tiled roofs on the left end and right of center, and slate roofs on the left of center and right end, including end stacks and stacks to the left and right of center.

The structure is two storeys high with mixed fenestration. The left end has three bays with glazing bar sash windows on the first floor and leaded casements on the ground floor, both under cambered heads. The left of center section has a five-bay range with glazing bar sash windows on the first floor and cambered head windows on the ground floor. To the right of center is a further three-bay range with glazing bar sashes on the first floor, a plat band over the ground floor, and an arched casement to the ground floor on the right. The right end bay features a jettied, square bay casement on the first floor.

There is a part-glazed and panelled door with diagonal bracing to the right of center, framed by a lotus capital and a half-columned surround that supports a bowed, dentilled cornice above. Additionally, there is a further half-glazed door at the left end under a 19th-century segmental overdoor on stepped brick brackets. An oval wood cartouche with a foliage surround is positioned above a 20th-century glazed extension to the rear, which includes a first-floor glazed gallery above.
