Description
This description covers a pair of 18th-century urns located at the north-west end of the terrace at Lee Place in Charlbury. The urns are made of ashlar stone and feature swept pedestals, rims, and gadrooned bottoms. They were relocated to their current position on stone plinths around 1965 when the terrace was constructed, having previously been situated elsewhere in the garden.
Additionally, there is a retaining wall, steps, and urns associated with the terrace. The retaining wall and steps date back to the 18th century and were likely remodeled in the 19th and 20th centuries. The structure is made of limestone and includes a broad flight of five steps leading to the terrace, which is flanked by two fluted urns that have egg and dart rims and square bases adorned with wreaths. There are similar steps to the right, also flanked by fluted urns, and a further pair of urns to the left. The urns and steps are included for their group value.
