Description
The icehouse, located approximately 460 meters southeast of Cornbury House, is likely from the 18th century. It is constructed from coursed limestone rubble and has a circular plan with a domed roof. The structure features a double skin below ground level. The entrance is on the north side and includes a corbelled stone roof, a boarded door with wrought-iron strap hinges, and a flat stone arch. Inside, there is a domed chamber with some brickwork in the dome. The double-skin construction is unusual and was likely used to enhance the thermal performance of the icehouse, especially since it is not covered by an earth mound. The icehouse is situated in a remote area of Cornbury Park, away from Cornbury House.
