Description
The Church of St. John features a group of four chest tombs located approximately 8 meters north of the chancel. The first tomb belongs to the Newman family and dates from around 1747. It is made of stone and has an inscribed panel at the center of each side, with fluted baluster mouldings at the corners and an armorial crest at the west end. The top is flat. The second tomb is dedicated to Thomas Eldridge and his wife, dating from around 1796. This tomb is also made of stone and has a moulded base, with inscribed central panels on each side and fluted panels on the left and right. The ends feature inscribed panels, and the top is stepped and moulded with a roll-moulded spine. The two 19th-century chest tombs present are not considered to have special architectural interest.
