Description
The Smallbones Memorial is a chest-tomb located about 21 meters south of the priest's door of the Church of St John. It is likely from the early 19th century and constructed of ashlar stone. The memorial features enriched panels and corner piers adorned with incised Soanian fret. It has moulded cross-gabled acroteria with anthemion reliefs in the tympana, along with a moulded plinth and cornice. The tomb has a hipped capping. It commemorates Richard Smallbones, who died in 1757, and Mary Smallbones, who passed away in 1822; it was probably erected in memory of Mary.
