Description
The wall along the south and east sides of the stable yard at Kencot House features an archway and gatepier. This wall, likely built in the late 19th to early 20th century and altered over time, is constructed from coursed limestone rubble and topped with flat stone coping. It was formerly battlemented. Embedded in the wall is a remarkable re-used early 13th-century arch made of moulded stone, which displays dogtooth ornamentation, a label, and moulded capitals where the shafts are missing. The wall continues along the east side of the stable yard and slopes down to a gatepier made of rubble stone from the 19th to 20th century, which is capped with a pyramid and features a ball finial.
