Description
The National Westminster Bank, located at No. 16 in Chipping Norton, is a former town house dating from around 1780. It is constructed of ashlar stone and features a gabled stone-tiled roof with end stone stacks. The building stands three storeys high and has a three-window range, characterized by rusticated quoins and a bracketed cornice above the first-floor windows, along with a plain parapet.
On the top floor, there are six 3-pane sash windows set within moulded architraves, flanking a centrally placed bull's eye window that has spoked glazing. The first-floor windows consist of 12-pane sashes, also set in keyed and eared architraves with bracketed sills, with the central window adorned with a pediment.
The ground floor has been remodelled for bank use, featuring four rusticated and keyed round-arched openings. The two central openings contain sash windows, while the left side has a six-panel door with a spoked fanlight, and the right side features a 20th-century glazed door with a plain fanlight.
