Description
Nos 21 and 21A, currently operating as Hayes and Company Newsagents, are two houses that have been converted into shops. They were built in the 18th century, with some alterations made in the mid-19th century. The buildings are constructed from coursed rubble stone, featuring ashlar quoins and dressings, and have a gabled slate roof with end stacks—one stack made of stone and the other of cement. The structure stands three storeys high and has a four-window range. It includes a moulded cornice and a band below the top floor. The windows are recessed sash types with projecting keystones, featuring nine panes in the upper windows and twelve panes on the first floor. The ground floor has 20th-century shop fronts with entrances on each side. The buildings are included for their group value.
