Description
The Kempster Bale Tomb, located about 6 meters southwest of the porch of the Church of St John, is a notable structure commemorating John Kempster, who died in 1756, and Betty Kempster, who died in 1719. This bale tomb is constructed from ashlar stone and features a hollow chamfered base. Its long sides are panelled and adorned with scroll and carved end panels. The tomb is capped with a gadroon design and has a pillow bale that includes bobbin panelling. The ends of the tomb are decorated with scallops, with a skull featured on the eastern end.
