Description
This is a dovecote, likely from the 17th century, located approximately 30 metres northwest of Kiddington Hall. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble with stone dressings and features a conical stone slate roof. The dovecote has a circular plan and consists of one storey with a loft over a basement.
At the center, there is a square rendered wooden glover with three openings on each side, topped with a pyramidal stone-slate cap and a lead-covered finial. The structure includes three rendered gabled eaves dormers, each with 2-light diamond-leaded wooden casements. A boarded door on the north side has a wooden lintel, which may have been added in the 19th century, while there is a basement doorway on the southwest with chamfered stone reveals and a wooden lintel.
Inside, the dovecote features nesting boxes built into the walls, some with ledges, arranged in five tiers in the basement and eight tiers on the ground floor. The ground floor has 19th-century beams, which may be an insertion or alteration. The roof includes ashlar pieces and rafters that meet at the apex above the glover. This dovecote is situated within the grounds of Kiddington Hall.
