Description
The boat house, located approximately 75 meters southeast of Kiddington Hall, was built around 1850. It features a timber frame and a pyramidal roof covered with metal, designed in a rustic style with an octagonal plan. The structure has two storeys, with an open ground floor that includes rustic arcading and an open first floor also featuring rustic arcading and a balustrade. The roof is adorned with scalloped valencing and a wooden finial, while the rear is boarded on three sides.
Inside, the ground floor has a brick and stone segmental-arched structure at the back, and the first floor walls and roof are covered with old printing blocks. There is a boarded door at the rear. The boat house is situated on the north side of the lake in Kiddington Park, which likely dates back to the mid-18th century when Capability Brown made alterations to the park. The boat house probably dates from the mid-19th century when significant work was undertaken at Kiddington Hall. Kiddington Park and gardens are also recognized in the Historic England Register of Parks and Gardens at grade II.
