Description

Harcombe House is a farmhouse dating from the mid-17th century, with later extensions added in the late 19th or early 20th century. The original part of the house is constructed from roughly coursed marlstone rubble, while the later additions utilize limestone rubble. It has a stone slate roof with coped verges. Originally an L-shaped building, the farmhouse was extended to the right in the late 19th or early 20th century to create a T-shaped plan. The original section has two storeys and an attic. The upper floor features two three-light chamfered mullion windows with leaded panes directly below the eaves, and one similar window to the right-hand side. The ground floor includes a similar three-light window, a narrow rectangular window to the left of the porch, and two further three-light mullion windows, one in the original section and one in the addition. Two 20th-century hip-roofed dormers with leaded windows are present in the middle of the roof slope of the 17th-century section. A 19th-century gabled stone porch has coped verges and a moulded cambered outer arch, with a half-glazed door set within an inner Tudor arch. The original section features an integral end stack with a moulded capping to the left, and a similar ridge stack (likely a former end stack) where it joins the addition. A 19th-century gabled range is situated at the rear on the left-hand side. The interior was not accessible during a resurvey in August 1987, but is likely to be of interest.
