Description
Gables Cottage is likely an early 18th-century house, subsequently divided and altered. It is constructed of roughly coursed limestone rubble, with a concrete tile roof. The building follows a three-unit baffle-entry plan, and has two storeys plus a gable-lit attic. Windows are 20th-century casements with wooden lintels; the first-floor windows are directly below the eaves, with two on the left, one on the right first floor and one to the immediate right of an infilled doorway with a wooden lintel in the centre. A boarded door with a wooden lintel is located on the right-hand side. Integral end stacks are visible on the left and a ridge stack, directly above a blocked doorway, has been rebuilt in the 19th century. A gabled staircase projection extends to the rear. The interior was not accessible at the time of resurvey in August 1987, but it is reported to retain a winder staircase continuing up to the attic within the rear gabled projection.
