Description

The Masons Arms Public House is a former farmhouse that has been converted into a public house. It dates from the early 17th century, with front wings added in the 18th century and a rear wing and alterations made in the 20th century. The building is constructed from coursed limestone rubble and features exposed collar trusses at the gable ends of the side wings. It has a half-hipped thatch roof with brick ridge and end stacks.

The layout is U-shaped with front wings, and it is one storey high with an attic. The front has a one-window range that includes timber lintels above a 20th-century plank door and an 18th-century three-light leaded casement window. There is a gabled half-dormer with a 20th-century three-light casement. The inner side walls of the projecting wings feature a 20th-century door and a 20th-century bay window. The right side wall has an 18th-century two-light leaded casement and a projection for a bread oven.

At the rear of the left side wall, the gable end of the early 17th-century range has label moulds over three- and four-light chamfered stone-mullioned windows. There is a 20th-century extension at the rear, built with similar materials. The interior has not been inspected but is likely to be of interest.
