Description
The Grange is an early to mid-17th century farmhouse, later used as a house, with 18th century additions. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble, with dressed stone to the front, and has a stone slate roof. The house follows a three-unit T-plan, with a one-unit 18th century addition to the right and a projecting 18th century wing set at right angles to the right. It has two storeys and an attic, with gable windows on the right side. A two-storey wing projects from the front. Integral ashlar end stacks are located on the left and off-centre to the right, with what was likely a former end stack now acting as a ridge stack. There is also a full-height gabled porch in the centre, and a pair of outer gabled full dormers. The front has a three-window facade, featuring two-light wooden casements with wooden lintels. A probable 18th century gabled porch extension houses a boarded door with a wooden lintel and a three-part rectangular overlight with a wooden lintel. The right-hand gable end has wooden casements with flat stone arches. The rear shows a straight joint to the left, in line with the ridge stack, and a central one-storey wing with a three-light window in the gable. The front wing features a stone ridge stack, two-light wooden casements, and a one-storey lean-to. Internally, ground-floor partition walls have been removed to create a large room with cut-back ceiling beams and chamfered joists. An open fireplace is located on the right with a chamfered wooden lintel; a further open fireplace with a wooden lintel is in the left-hand bedroom. A 17th century semi-circular winder staircase is located in the porch, leading to the attic. An old fireplace with a wooden lintel is present in the left-hand bedroom.
