Description

This building is part of a group of burgage plots, dating from the 15th or 16th century. It is constructed of rubble and timber frame, with Cotswold stone roofs. A large central chimney is notable, featuring a brick section over an ashlar base. The building comprises three properties, numbers 9, 10 and 11, which present slightly varying appearances. Number 9 is entirely of rubble construction, with 9 windows. It has 20th-century casement windows on the first floor and two glazing-bar sash windows on the ground floor, and a door to the left. Numbers 10 and 11 have a rendered jetty to the first floor, supported by a moulded bressumer, and a moulded stone cornice to the first floor, with remnants of a more elaborate eaves cornice. Number 10 has mullion windows with ovolo moulding on the first floor and a moulded profile with lozenge-shaped cockbeads on the ground floor, both now containing paired glazing-bar sashes. A 20th-century 2-light casement window is on the first floor to the left. Number 11 has three irregular windows on the first floor, with a chamfered mullion to the right-hand window. The ground floor of number 11 is underbuilt within the jetty and contains two paired glazing-bar sashes flanking the doorway. The rear of number 8 has a range of wood mullion windows, including a 6-light, transomed window on the first floor. The rear of numbers 10 and 11 incorporates an unusual open 6-bay loggia leading to a timber-framed inner wall braced with timbers, set just 2 feet 6 inches back. Inside number 10 is a fine arch-braced truss on the first floor. Also in number 10 is a blocked, externally-visible window with a moulded, foiled head and two lights.
