Description
The Eagle Tavern Public House is a building that originally served as a house, dating from the 17th century, with most of its features from the late 17th century. It was refronted in the late 19th century. The structure is made of coursed limestone rubble with a stucco front and has a gabled roof covered in Welsh slate. The building has end stacks made of rendered stone finished in brick on the left and 18th-century brick on the right. It is designed in a U-shape with rear wings and has two storeys with a three-window range.
The front features a flat pentice roof above 20th-century double doors and two square bay windows. To the left, there is a 20th-century window, while on the first floor, there is a three-light casement window flanked by two-light late 19th-century casements with glazing bars. At the rear, there is a two-storey 19th-century outshut and a two-storey rear wing to the right, which is late 17th century and constructed of similar materials. This wing includes a later 18th-century service range with a concrete-tile roof. Additionally, there are 18th-century two- and one-storey ranges to the rear left, also made of similar materials, with corrugated iron roofing at the back.
Inside, the building features a heavy chamfered beam to the right, along with other chamfered beams and open fireplaces with chamfered bressumers in the end walls of the front range, which has a central through-passage. The roofs have not been inspected but are likely to be of interest.
