Description
Hillside, now occupied by R H Coombes & Company Chartered Accountants, is a house that dates from the early 19th century and has been converted into offices. It is constructed from coursed and squared rubble stone, with dressed stone quoins and surrounds. The building features a moulded eaves cornice and dressed stone copings, topped with a shallow pitched gabled slate roof and reconstituted stone stacks at the ends.
The structure has three storeys and a basement, with a two-window range. The sash windows are deeply recessed, with 12 panes on the upper floor and 16 panes on the lower floors. The entrance door, located in the right-hand bay, is accessed by steps and has six panels: four lower panels that are reeded and two upper panels that are fielded. Above the door is a rectangular fanlight with a roundel, flanked by lozenge shapes, all beneath a Tuscan porch. At the rear, there is a tall stair window, which has been fitted with modern glass.
The interior has been altered and features a mid to late 19th-century staircase that includes 17th-century style splat balusters. The flanking wings of the building are not included in the listing.
