Description
The Grange is a house dating from the 17th century, with an 18th-century encasement. It is built of red brick featuring flared headers in Flemish bond, topped with a 20th-century plain-tile roof that is half-hipped and has a catslide to the right. The house is two stories high with a central range of two windows, a cross-wing to the left that has two stories and an attic, and a single bay to the right with a catslide to the ground floor.
The entrance features a six-panel door at the center, which is topped by a pediment-gabled hood. The central range has three-light casements with leaded lights and segmental brick heads, while the right side has a three-light casement with leaded lights. There are blind panels with segmental brick heads at the ground floor end of the cross-wing. The right return of the cross-wing has two-light casements with leaded lights and segmental brick heads, as does the left return of the catslide portion to the right. A flat brick band runs between the ground and first floors, and there are two-light casements on the first floor and attic of the cross-wing.
At the rear, the building has lined render, likely on stone rubble. The right return features a gable end and a lean-to roof covered with stone slate tiles. Inside, there is an 18th-century half-domed niche at the center of the ground floor, which has a pilastered surround, shaped shelves, and a cupboard underneath. The entrance court is enclosed by early 19th-century cast-iron railings and a central gate adorned with spear finials.
