Description

Eastmanton House is a farmhouse dating from the early 17th century, with a later 17th century one-bay extension. It has a timber frame, with the front rendered and square framing exposed at the rear. The house features a thatched roof and brick stacks. Originally designed with a two-unit plan, it was extended to three units in the late 17th century. The building is two stories high and has a five-window range. A 20th-century porch and door have been added. The original early 17th-century front includes three-light 18th-century leaded casements with moulded wood architraves, while other windows are 20th-century imitations, except for one three-light and one two-light 18th-century leaded casement, and one four-light wood-mullioned casement at the rear of the early 17th-century block, along with a two-light 18th-century leaded casement on the right side wall. The roof is gabled, featuring an original triple-flue ridge stack and a late 17th-century left end stack now set in the ridge.

Inside, there are 18th and 19th-century planked and two-panelled doors, and a chamfered bressumer over the open fireplace in the left room. The house has chamfered and stopped beams throughout, although the joists are recent. There are quarter-turn and straight-flight stairs leading to the front left and rear right. A queen strut truss is located over the left end wall of the original early 17th-century house, while the rest of the roof has not been inspected but is likely of interest. There are also 20th-century extensions at the rear right and against the left gable wall of the late 17th-century extension.
