Description

Turnpike House is a house dating from the mid-17th century, with later alterations. The building features a brick ground floor and small timber-framing with brick infill on the first floor and attic, topped with an old plain-tile roof and a central brick ridge stack. It stands two storeys high with an attic and has a two-window range that is positioned at right angles to the road, along with a cross-wing to the rear left.

The ground and first floors have four-pane horned sash windows on the left and right. The cross-gables on the left and right include a three-light casement on the left and a two-light casement on the right. On the left return facing the road, there is a six-panel door with a wood architrave surround and a wood trellis porch to the left, alongside a ground floor right three-light casement with leaded lights. A two-light casement is located on the first floor left.

The cross-wing to the left of the left return has a brick ground floor and small timber-framing with brick infill on the first floor, also featuring an old plain-tile roof. This section is two-storey and has a three-window range, with a four-panel door to the left and three-light casements on the ground floor to the centre and right. The first floor has three two-light casements. The interior has not been inspected.
