Description
The Old Rectory barn, located approximately 15 metres south-east of The Old Rectory, is a Grade II* listed building dating from the 14th and 17th centuries. It features a weatherboard exterior over a timber frame, resting on a base of chalk, sarsen, and brick, topped with a thatched roof. The barn is designed in an L-plan. The front, which faces The Old Rectory, has a half-hipped roof on the gable wall of the 17th-century wing. The right wing includes 18th-century plank doors with strap hinges, situated in the center of a five-bay range, and also has a half-hipped roof.
Inside, the right section contains three 14th-century cruck trusses with arch-braces to the collar, solid yokes to the ridge, windbraces, and splayed joints to the purlins. The left part features three 17th-century trusses and an additional 17th-century truss at the junction with a one-bay wing to the left. This section is aisled, with a post arch-braced to the wall-plate and tie beam, and includes one queen post and three collar-trusses with side struts. The left side wing has 18th-century plank double doors with strap hinges.
