Description
The gatepier, located approximately 20 meters southeast of the Church of St. Lawrence, dates from the early 17th century and is part of the former manor house. It is constructed of limestone, with some brick on the left side. The structure features rusticated quoin strips and a right side wall, while the front and rear walls are made of ashlar and include round-headed niches. It has a moulded plinth and entablature topped with a curved finial. This gatepier was originally one of a pair that served as the main southern entrance to the manor house purchased by Speaker Lenthall in 1634, and a map from 1724 illustrates its historical context.
