Description

The Church of St Blaise is a Grade II* listed building located on Hilton High Street. It features a 14th-century west tower and south porch, while the nave, north aisle, and chancel were constructed around 1849 by Henry Woodyer. The tower is made of coursed stone rubble, and the nave, aisle, and chancel are built from squared coursed stone. The church has a plain-tile roof from the 19th century, and the roof of the tower is not visible. The structure includes a four-bay nave and north aisle, a two-bay chancel, and the west tower is designed in the Gothic Revival style.

The entrance to the nave has a 19th-century plank door set within a two-centred arched doorway, which is accompanied by a stone-vaulted stone porch. The nave, aisle, and chancel feature 19th-century windows with Perpendicular tracery. The tower has two-light plate tracery louvred openings on each side of the bell chamber stage and is topped with a battlemented parapet.

Inside, the church has arch-braced collar truss roofs in the chancel, north aisle, and part of the nave, while the rest of the nave has a plaster vault. The chancel is adorned with a 19th-century reredos, altar, altar rail, and painted inscriptions. There is a 19th-century stone pulpit with 20th-century alterations located to the right of the nave, and a stone font from the 19th century has been moved to the north aisle.

Historically, Bryant Barrett of Milton Manor House built his family vault onto the church in 1769. Bishop Challoner was buried here in 1791, but his remains were removed to Westminster Cathedral in 1947.
