Description

This is a 17th-century brewers house, later used as a malt-house, and subsequently a house, with an 18th-century malt-house cross-range and a mid-19th-century addition to the left. The main part of the building has a rendered plinth and is likely built on timber framing, with an old plain-tile roof. A brick ridge stack is located to the left of centre, and an end stack is on the right. The layout follows a three-unit lobby entry plan. The facade has two storeys and three windows, with a 20th-century sash door to the left of centre. All windows are 20th-century two-light wood casements. To the left is a mid-19th-century addition constructed of painted brick, with a slate roof and a brick end stack to the right. This addition is two storeys high and has a single window, featuring 2-light wood mullion and transom windows on both the ground and first floors. The interior of the main house and the malt-house (now showrooms) have not been inspected. The malt-house, located to the rear, dates to the 18th century with 19th-century alterations and is built of red brick in a Flemish bond with flared headers, topped with an old plain-tile roof. It is two storeys high with a four-window range and irregular window placement. The building is included on the list for its group value.
