Description

College Farmhouse is an early 17th-century farmhouse, now a house, with alterations made around 1904 when the right-hand bay was truncated. The house is constructed of uncoursed limestone rubble with a gabled stone slate roof and a 20th-century concrete block chimney. Originally a 3-unit lobby-entry plan, it is now a 2-unit layout. The two-storey, 3-window front has a timber lintel over a central 20th-century plank door. A 20th-century two-light casement sits to the right, and a wood-mullioned and transomed ovolo-moulded 4-light window is to the left, both with timber lintels. Timber lintels also top the blocked central first-floor window and flanking 19th-century three-light casements. The main entrance is now at the rear. An L-shaped extension built in 1904, which encloses the rear yard, is not of architectural note. Inside, the room to the right has a cased beam, a chamfered bressumer over the open fireplace, and a full set of chamfered and stopped beam and joists. To the left are a central spiral staircase rising to the first floor and an attic. The first floor has ogee-stopped chamfered beams, while the attic features 17th-century plank doors with fittings and a 5-bay collar truss roof with butt purlins. The demolition of the original right bay is evident from the 1904 extension.
