Description

Cobweb Cottage consists of three cottages that have been converted into four dwellings. They date from the early to late 18th century. The front range features two cottages built from coursed and uncoursed limestone rubble, which is colourwashed at the front, while the right bay is made of colourwashed brick. The roofs are gabled and half-hipped, covered with thatch, and there are brick stacks at the ends and on the ridge.

The two one-unit cottages at the front are attached to a cottage at the rear. The front has two ranges: one storey and attic with a two-window range to the right and a one-window range to the left. There is a segmental brick arch over a 19th-century plank door with a Welsh slate pentice, flanked by flat brick arches over 20th-century casements. The left bay features a timber lintel over a 20th-century casement and includes a Victorian post box, while a 19th-century dormer casement is located to the right. A 19th-century bay has been added to the right of the front, constructed from colourwashed limestone rubble and topped with a gabled old tile roof.

The rear wing is built from similar materials, has a half-hipped roof, two ridge stacks, and a 20th-century extension at the back. This section is also one storey and attic with a four-window range, two 20th-century porches, 19th-century two-light casements, and 18th-century two-light leaded casements in the dormers.

Inside, No. 14 features a chamfered and stopped bressumer over an open fireplace with a bread oven and seat, along with a chamfered beam and round and split elm rafters with thatch ties. No. 16 has a similar roof and a closed truss next to No. 17, along with a chamfered beam. No. 15 also includes a chamfered beam.
