BUCKLAND SU39NE 3/22 Newton Lodge - II

shown on Ordnance Survey map as Upper Newton Farm. Farmhouse now House. Early C18. Flemish bond brick with flared headers to front, coursed limestone rubble to sides and rear; stone slate roof; stone stack to left with brick quoins and finished in brick; brick stack to right. One-unit plan. 2 storeys; 2-window range. Central door blocked in late C19 has late C19 segmental arch over late C19 horned sash. Gauged brick segmental arch to right, segmental arch to left, timber lintels on first floor, over horned sashes. Gabled roof; gable end stacks, external stack to left has moulded brick cap. Interior: C19 four-panelled doors. Chamfered bressumer over remodelled open fireplace to right; cased quartered beams. 2-bay collar-truss roof with side-struts and butt purlins. Two storey extension of c.1970 with present entry to right. To rear, parallel to main range, is late C19 two-storey block of coursed limestone rubble, with brick quoins and dressings to C20 casement, late C19 horned sash and 8-pane sash; gabled Welsh slate roof; brick lateral stack.
