Description

Lower Farmhouse is an early to mid-18th century farmhouse located in Wood Eaton. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble with squared quoins, and has a roof of artificial-stone slates. The farmhouse follows a 4-unit through-passage plan with a rear wing. It has two storeys and a four-window front. The front features a four-panel door, with a flat canopy to the left of the extreme right bay. The windows are casements, with 3, 2, 3 and 3 lights, all set within cambered stone arches. Brick stacks are present to the right gable and to the left of the passage. A small, single-storey range extends to the left. The rear elevation mirrors the front, with a similar door and casements. The contemporary 2-unit rear wing contains a 4-light casement. Inside the rear wing is a large open fireplace with a dressed keyblock surround and a bread oven. The front range has panelled shutters. The farmhouse is almost identical in plan to the nearby, slightly earlier Old Upper Farmhouse.
