Description
This is an outbuilding attached to the stables, dating from the 18th century, with possible earlier elements. It is constructed of limestone rubble with ashlar quoins and features an old plain-tile roof. The building has a square plan and is two storeys high. The walls include a brick dentil eaves course and stone flat arches. There is an entrance to the left of the centre and a small window on the first floor in the return wall. The rear has 20th-century openings. The roof is pyramidal with a louvre. To the left, there is a 20th-century weatherboarded link to the stables, and to the right, a wall adjacent to the east of the Manor House. Inside, the walls are plastered, and the first floor, accessed by a stair, is supported by iron ties from two parallel roof trusses made of exceptionally heavy pine, flanking a central space of unknown function. This building may have been converted in the 18th century from a dovecote, as indicated on an estate map from 1701 by the cartographer Joel Gascoyne.
