Description
The gate to the walled garden, located approximately 400 meters east of Nuneham House, is a notable structure likely dating from the 18th century, while the gate piers were probably rebuilt in the late 19th or early 20th century. The gates are made of wrought iron and feature a deep scrolled lock rail with ornamental panels on either side of the central opening. An elaborate scrolled overthrow includes some repousse work. The square brick piers are topped with moulded limestone caps. This gateway is positioned at the eastern end of the main east-west axis of the walled garden, which is lined with a tunnel of apple trees. Nuneham Park, where this gate is situated, is recognized in the HBMC County Register of Gardens at Grade I.
