Description

Dairy Cottage is a late 18th and early 19th century house. It is constructed of whitewashed brick with a slate roof, featuring brick stacks and a central ridge louvre associated with the original dairy function. The building comprises a single-storey dairy, now integrated into a house, with two-storey brick extensions. A hexagonal model dairy, with a part-glazed two-leaved door within a shallow porch supported by narrow piers, is a prominent feature. Flanking the porch are round-headed two-light casements with glazing bars and transoms. Wide projecting eaves are present. Lean-tos and further extensions with sash windows are located to the sides and rear, with a rear entrance. The original dairy interior retains its slate dairy furniture, including a central table that is now protected by a wooden cover. The dairy is believed to be contemporary with the alterations to Nuneham House around 1800 and further extensions built in the early to mid-19th century.
