Description

No. 1 Market Place is an early 19th-century building forming part of a larger block, related to No. 2 Duke Street. It has a stucco facade and a slate roof. The building is three stories high. The front elevation, facing Market Place, has one sash window fitted with late 19th-century glazing. The ground floor features an early 20th-century shop front. The corner of the building is rounded. The rear elevation, facing Duke Street, contains four sash windows, also with late 19th-century glazing, alongside a similar window at the corner. The building occupies an important position at a central street junction in Henley and is part of a significant group which includes Nos. 2 to 6 (even) Bell Street, No. 1 Duke Street, and Nos. 1 and 3 Hart Street.
