NORTHFIELD END (West Side) No 17 (The Shrubberies and Northfield End Post Office)

2. Late C18 facade, repeating the design of Sydney House Hotel (q.v.) but some asymmetrical features. Painted brick with bracketed eaves cornice and old tiled roof. 3 storeys, 3 windows, all sashes with glazing bars. 2 storey bay centre, additional 1st floor bay with enriched frieze band over stable entrance (now replaced by shop front). Door at south side with label, moulded architrave and fanlight. Bas relief above door, which has 6 panels.
Nos 1 to 11 (odd) and 15 to 25 (odd) with Denmark House, Elm House, Ruperts Elm, Ruperts Guard, White House, the Obelisk and No 30, form a group with Nos 93 and 95 and Nos 70 to 102 (even) with the building at the rear of No 70 Bell Street and with Tarrys Cottage, Bell Cottage and the flat on Ruperts Lane.
