Description
The Shrubberies and Northfield End Post Office is a late 18th century building located on the west side of Northfield End. Its facade mirrors the design of the Sydney House Hotel but features some asymmetrical elements. The building is constructed of painted brick and has a bracketed eaves cornice with an old tiled roof. It stands three storeys tall with three windows, all of which are sash windows with glazing bars.
At the center, there is a two-storey bay, along with an additional first-floor bay that has an enriched frieze band above what used to be a stable entrance, now replaced by a shop front. A door on the south side features a label, moulded architrave, and fanlight, with a bas relief above it that consists of six panels.
The Shrubberies and Northfield End Post Office is part of a group that includes Nos 1 to 11 (odd) and 15 to 25 (odd), along with Denmark House, Elm House, Ruperts Elm, Ruperts Guard, White House, the Obelisk, and No 30. It also forms a group with Nos 93 and 95, as well as Nos 70 to 102 (even), the building at the rear of No 70 Bell Street, and Tarrys Cottage, Bell Cottage, and the flat on Ruperts Lane.
