Description
This barn, located approximately 1 metre northwest of the Manor House, dates from 1806, as indicated by an inscription on the tie beam. It features weatherboarded timber framing set on a plinth made of brick and clunch rubble, topped with a thatch and old plain-tile roof. The barn has a four-bay plan with a porch and aisle, which has been extended by one bay. The front of the barn includes a porch, positioned to the right of centre, with a hipped roof that serves as a canopy. This porch is supported by a stone segmental-arched bridge. The plinth, which rises from a stream, has a rubble base and a stepped brick weathering, continuing in Flemish-bond brickwork with flared headers. The roof is hipped to the left over the added weatherboarded bay, which functions as a separate unit with its own entrance. The rear aisle has a tiled roof. Inside, the barn features a clasped-purlin roof with curved inner principals. The bay of the aisle to the right of the rear entrance is a separate unit. The tie beam is inscribed with "D WHITE/J. GLANVILL 1806" and "H. BIRCH".
