Description
Blenheim Cottage is a house that was originally two cottages, dating from the early 18th century. It is constructed of limestone rubble with some brick dressings and features a thatched roof with brick stacks. The building has a 2-unit plan, with a lower single unit to the right and a 20th-century extension to the left. It is one storey plus attics and has a three-window front. The entrance is a plank door located to the right of the center, flanked by renewed and enlarged casement windows, with two 2-light dormers above. The door is topped with a brick segmental arch and has quoins. The brick gable stacks add to the structure's character. The single unit, likely the earlier part of the building, features an 18th-century 2-light casement window with board shutters and brick dressings, along with a 2-light dormer above. The roof of this unit is half-hipped to the right, and a former doorway has been built up. Inside, the single unit has a chamfered and stopped beam, and the timber-framed gable to the left includes queen struts and wattle and daub infill. The cottage is included for its group value. Blenheim Lane is shown on the Ordnance Survey sheet as Blenheim Road.
