Description
The walled garden, located approximately 30 meters west of Manor Farmhouse, dates from the early 18th century. It is constructed of brick with limestone ashlar details and features an old plain-tile roof. The garden is square in shape, with a semi-circular recess to the north that contains a loggia. The high walls are built in Flemish bond and have plinths, along with remnants of a moulded brick coping. There are built-up gateways on three sides, each flanked by heavily rusticated brick piers. The doorway in the northwest corner retains parts of a door with six fielded panels. Notably, part of the east wall has been demolished. The loggia features a stone Roman Ionic portico that is distyle in antis, adorned with the escutcheon of Clerke and flanked by festoons in the tympanum of the pediment. Inside, the garden is plastered, and the deeply-coved ceiling remains, showcasing high-quality festoons radiating from a central foliage rosette. This walled garden was formerly part of North Weston Manor, which was largely demolished in the early 19th century, with some remains incorporated into Manor Farmhouse.
