STANTON ST. JOHN WOODPERRY SP51SE 2/179 Pavilion approx. 50m. NE of 18/07/63 Woodperry House (Formerly listed as Woodperry House with garden and entrance gates and screens)

GV II

Garden pavilion. Early C18, remodelled late C18/early C19, Limestone ashlar and rubble. Square plan. Single storey, Ashlar front with plinth and plain band below the parapet, was re-modelled (q.v. south pavilion) with a single segmental-arched opening, later infilled with a glazed doorway with flanking windows below a rendered tympanum. Interior: Part of the floor is paved with medieval encaustic tiles from the excavated church of Woodperry. The pavilion served as a water tower for Woodperry House and was supplied by the pump house below (q.v.). One of a pair of pavilions flanking the parterre at the rear of Woodperry House, (J. Cornforth, Country Life, Vol,129, pp.18-21 and 66-9; Buildings of England: Oxfordshire, p.855).
