Description
The lychgate, located approximately 60 metres west of the Church of All Saints, dates from around 1880. It is constructed of timber on a limestone plinth and features a plain-tile roof. The structure has two bays and is gable-fronted, with two arched collar-trusses and arcaded sides. The eastern arch is supported by timber struts, and there is an ornamental wrought-iron cross on the ridge. Carved inscriptions on the arches include a text on the west side and a dedication on the east side that reads, "Erected by members of Cuddesdon college in loving memory of Jane Diana Furse who fell asleep March 1877." The lychgate frames a particularly impressive view of the church and is significant for its setting. It is included for its group value.
