Description

Stowford Farmhouse, now a house, dates from the early to mid 17th century and was altered in the 19th century. It is constructed from limestone rubble with squared quoins and timber lintels, and has a pantile roof with stone gable stacks. The building is arranged in an L-shape, with a later extension. The main range is a single storey with attics. The front elevation features a doorway with a glazed door, a three-light casement window to the right, and a blocked single-light window to the left. A wing projects to the left and has a two-light casement. Dormers with gabled roofs, containing two and three lights each, are visible on the first floor. All windows have leaded lights. The left gable of the main range has a three-light leaded casement with an ovolo-moulded frame. An extension dating to the 19th century, running parallel to the main range, features the main entrance. Inside, there is an open fireplace with a bressumer. The site is thought to have been the location of a medieval settlement called Stowford.
