Description
No. 9 Norman Avenue is a house built around the 1890s, featuring red brick with freestone dressings and a clay plain tile gabled roof. The property showcases an eclectic late Victorian style. The layout is double depth, with the entrance and stair hall on the right, a drawing room on the left, and a dining room along with a service wing at the back.
The exterior consists of two storeys and an attic, presenting an asymmetrical two-bay front. On the left, there is a projecting gabled wing adorned with stone and brick chequerwork, decorative bands, pilasters, and turrets, along with a tripartite Gothic window featuring ogee cusped heads. Below this, a large two-storey canted bay projects out, supported by stone pilasters and an entablature, complemented by terracotta friezes.
To the right, a stone Gothic porch with a four-centred arch and panelled turrets is set back, while above it is a stone Gothic window with a cusped arch and flanking pilasters, featuring a terracotta frieze and a chequerwork parapet above, which includes a corbelled turret at the corner topped with a griffon. The windows are leaded pane, and the bays have large wooden mullion-transom windows. The interior has not been inspected.
