Description
Lower Farmhouse and Shirburn Cottage are three cottages that function as two dwellings, built in the mid-18th century. The building was extended to the right in the late 18th century and again in the mid-19th century. It features coursed and squared chalk with an old tile roof that is gabled on the left and hipped on the right. There is a brick stack at the left end and a ridge stack on the right, which was originally the end stack of the 18th-century house. The structure has a T-plan with a rear right wing and stands two storeys tall with a three-window range.
The front has segmental brick arches over two blocked doors, one plank door, a three-light leaded casement window to the left, a 19th-century two-light iron casement, and a 20th-century casement to the right. On the first floor, there are three-light leaded casements, including a latticed pane to the left. At the rear, there is a three-light leaded horizontal sliding sash window. The late 18th-century rear right wing features chalk ashlar bands and brick dressings, with a gabled old tile roof and a brick end stack, and a four-panelled door to the right. Additionally, there is a mid-19th-century brick one-bay extension to the right. The interior has not been inspected but is likely to be of interest.
