Description

Hampden Cottage Manor Lodge is a pair of dwellings that date back to the 17th century, with remodeling in the early 18th century and the addition of the right wing in the mid-18th century. The original left range is timber-framed, while the right is constructed from knapped flint rubble with brick dressings. The building has a gabled thatched roof and a brick ridge stack, forming an L-plan with a front right wing. It stands two storeys tall and features a three-window range. There is a segmental brick arch over a plank door, and gauged brick flat arches above a double-leaf six-panelled door. The windows include two-light horizontal sliding sashes on the ground floor and similar casements on the first floor, along with a chequer brick storey band. The gable wall of the right wing has segmental brick arches over an attic light and three-light leaded casements, as well as a mid-19th century canted bay window. The interior of the 17th-century left range, known as Manor Lodge, was originally built as a two-unit lobby-entry house and features a full set of chamfered and stopped beams and joists on the right. The first floor and Hampden Cottage have not been inspected but are likely to be of interest.
