Description
The Oxford Canal Tilting Bridge, located approximately 650 meters southeast of Duke's Cut, is a late 18th-century structure designed by James Brindley. This tilting canal bridge features a wooden deck supported by brick walls that include stone details. The flat wooden bridge is complemented by long raking counterweight beams. The embankment walls, which widen and slope away from the bridge, are topped with brick copings and incorporate large rusticated stone blocks set into the brickwork beneath the bridge to serve as fenders. This type of bridge is unique to the Oxford Canal.
