Description

Church Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 16th century. It consists of a northeast-southwest range that faces southeast, with a northwest wing that has a later pent roof added to its northeast side. In the west angle, there is a 19th-century addition. The 16th-century range is two storeys high, built of coursed rubble with a stone slate roof and features two red brick end chimneys, one of which on the southwest is set on a moulded stone base and extends down the outside of the house. The southeast face has three modern casement windows with two lights on the first floor, while the ground floor has similar windows and an original stone doorway with a four-centred arch, moulded stop-chamfered jambs, and blank shields in the spandrels. The 19th-century addition has a Welsh slate roof and features a two-storeyed, three-sided stone bay on a brick base at the southwest end, with two gables and modern sash windows on its northwest face. The pent roof on the northeast side has two gabled dormers of unequal size.

Inside, the south ground floor room includes an original stone fireplace with Ionic oak pilasters and an oak overmantel with three bays, as well as some early 17th-century panelling used as a dado. The northeast wall of the kitchen in the northwest wing has recently exposed original wattle and daub filling. The first floor has an original stone fireplace that now has a modern wood surround and shelf.
