Description
This is an early 17th-century house. It is constructed from coursed squared limestone rubble with timber lintels, and has stone slate and old plain-tile roofs with brick and stone stacks set on rendered stone bases. The house has a T-shaped plan, two storeys plus attics, and a three-window front. The upper floor has a three-light casement flanked by twenty-pane sash windows. The ground floor has three renewed casements. A two-light ovolo-moulded wooden casement is found in the right-hand gable wall. The entrance is in the left-hand gable wall. A rear wing of baffle-entry plan (two units) extends to the left. A large, clustered central stack includes the gnomon of a sundial, and a lateral stack projects to the left. The first floor of the rear wing has ovolo-moulded casements of four, one, and three lights, with 18th and 19th-century casements on the ground floor. A two-light roof dormer is located to the right. An outshut is situated in the angle between the main range and the rear wing. Further ovolo-moulded frames can be seen at the rear. The interior has been partially remodelled, probably in the early 19th century, but retains chamfered spine beams with run-out stops at ground and first floor levels, along with 18th-century joinery. Two bedrooms feature stone Tudor-arched fireplaces with moulded surrounds and stops. The roof has a single row of butt-purlins. The garden is enclosed by a high stone wall, and partly borders Long Wall.
